EU Plans to Simplify ESG Reporting
The European Union is working on a new regulation to make it easier for businesses to comply with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting rules. This comes after a meeting of EU leaders in Budapest, where Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the plan.
The goal is to combine existing and future ESG regulations into a single, streamlined set of rules. This will help businesses to reduce the administrative burden and focus on sustainable practices.
The new regulation is expected to include provisions from the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and the EU Taxonomy Regulation.
The EU aims to have concrete proposals for simplifying reporting obligations by at least 25% ready by the first half of 2025.
